Features
  • Non-staining
  • Resists water, steam, heat and abrasion by elements
  • Ready to use
  • No red label required
Description
Moisture-cure drying release agents for architectural pre-cast and protectors for forms placed in storage.

Unique, non-staining protective coatings for storage of steel casting forms and pans. Both STEELGUARD and STEELGUARD SP react with the moisture in air to form polymerized films that are highly resistant to water, steam, heat or abrasion by the elements. STEELGUARD SP is a higher solids version of STEELGUARD for longer-term storage requirements and severe conditions.

Usage
  • Chemically releases concrete from steel casting beds, pans, and fiberglass forms.
  • Protective coating for forms in storage

Coverage
Steel casting beds & pans: 1,900-3,000 sq. ft./gal. or 46-73.5 sq. m/L
Fiberglass: 1,500 sq. ft./gal. or 37 sq. m/L

Packaging
5 gal./18.9 L pails
55 gal./208 L drums
275 gal./1,045 L totes

Application
SURFACE PREPARATION: Forms should be clean and dry prior to application of STEELGUARD. It is important to remove all buildup, dirt, rust, mill scale and existing form oils prior to application.

APPLICATION: STEELGUARD and STEELGUARD SP are ready to use and require no mixing. Never dilute STEELGUARD. May be applied by all conventional methods; however, spraying is the most economical method of application. STEELGUARD should be applied in a very thin film on the surface of the form and allowed to "dry" on the form, usually 20 min. The actual dry time will depend on the relative humidity as well as the temperature.
Limitations
Both STEELGUARD and STEELGUARD SP react with moisture to form a hard, gel-like material. Therefore, there are some simple precautions that should be followed when using either of these materials:
  • Store containers upside down or on their sides to keep moisture out.
  • Immediately re-close containers tightly after each use.
  • Never pour unused STEELGUARD or STEELGUARD SP back into a container.
  • STEELGUARD SP is more reactive to moisture than STEELGUARD, and therefore has a more limited shelf life, especially in warmer weather. It is recommended that opened STEELGUARD SP containers be used quickly.

Cleanup
Equipment used to handle either STEELGUARD product should be cleaned with Unitex CITRI-CLEAN.

Cautions
  • Classified as combustible; do not use near open flame
  • Contains petroleum solvent; red label not required
  • Do not dilute or alter
